Root Canal Treatment
If you are experiencing severe toothache or prolonged sensitivity, you may require root canal treatment.
Root canal treatment is a dental procedure performed that replaces infected tooth pulp with fillings. Treating infected pulps is known as endodontic treatment.
There are certain warning signs we recommend patients look out for which may mean they require root canal treatment. These include:
• Spontaneous Pain
• Pain when biting or chewing
• Tooth Sensitivity
• Loose Teeth
• Swelling Gums
• Facial Swelling
Earlier, a badly infected tooth, or one that just had significant decay, was doomed to be extracted. Today, the majority of these teeth can be salvaged by the Root Canal Specialist.
An extraction is truly the last resort !
If you are experiencing any of the above symptoms, we recommend you urgently book in to see our practice before a minor dental issue becomes a more serious issue.
Process
This first step of the procedure is to anesthetize the area. The next step is to open an access point through the top or biting surface of the tooth. Each canal is then cleaned and shaped in preparation for the filling material. Once each canal is prepared, it is filled with an inert material called gutta percha–the canals are then sealed. The tooth is now ready for restoration, which is usually a crown. The entire procedure is often completed in one or two visits.
