The first tooth changes things

This is one of the most common things seen in toddlers, and it is not a sign of bad parenting. Caught early, it can be slowed down. Left alone, a two-year-old may need several teeth treated.
Teething: what is normal
Dribbling, chewing on everything and sore gums are normal. A chilled teething ring helps. High fever or diarrhoea are not caused by teething, so speak to your paediatrician about those. Avoid teething gels that numb the gum unless a doctor has advised them.
What happens at a toddler's visit
You sit with your child on your lap, and the doctor looks at the teeth, gums and tongue, often in under a few minutes. You talk about feeding, brushing and any habits. If your toddler cries, that is fine and quite usual. It does not mean the visit went badly.
